Events & Tournament Director (Part-Time)
Position Overview
The Events & Tournament Director is responsible for the planning, organization, execution, and growth of KIIH tournaments, events, sponsorships, and community partnerships. This position will oversee all aspects of event operations, including team recruitment, registration management, scheduling, communication, staffing, sponsorship development, and event-day execution.
The ideal candidate is highly organized, relationship-oriented, and passionate about creating exceptional experiences for players, families, and the hockey community.
This position is primarily remote with flexible scheduling and periodic in-person responsibilities during tournaments and special events.
Key Responsibilities (but not limited to)
Tournament Operations
- Manage all aspects of KIIH tournaments, including Summer Freeze and Bah Humbug 3v3 Tournaments.
- Coordinate tournament registration and team recruitment.
- Develop tournament schedules and game formats.
- Organize staffing, referees, volunteers, awards, and event logistics.
- Ensure smooth tournament operations before, during, and after each event.
- Create and maintain tournament operational playbooks and procedures.
- Oversee tournament-day operations and customer experience.
Communication & Customer Service
- Serve as the primary point of contact for tournament participants.
- Communicate with team managers, coaches, parents, officials, and facility partners.
- Provide timely updates regarding schedules, rules, and event information.
- Resolve issues professionally and maintain a positive customer experience.
Event Growth & Development
- Identify opportunities to expand existing tournaments.
- Assist in the development and launch of new tournament offerings, including:
- Adult 3v3 Events
- Girls & 8U 3v3 Events
- Additional tournament locations
- Charity and community events
- Develop strategies to increase participation and event revenue.
- Build relationships with teams, organizations, and hockey associations throughout Michigan.
Sponsorship & Community Partnerships
- Develop and manage sponsorship opportunities for tournaments and events.
- Build relationships with local businesses and community partners.
- Coordinate sponsor recognition and fulfillment.
- Assist in securing vendors and event partners.
- Explore fundraising opportunities that support KIIH programs and events.
Community Engagement
- Represent KIIH professionally within the hockey community.
- Help create memorable event experiences for players and families.
- Strengthen relationships with participating organizations and returning teams.
- Support the continued growth of the KIIH brand and mission.
Qualifications
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience managing youth sports teams, tournaments, events, fundraising, or community programs.
- Strong organizational and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects.
- Experience working with families, volunteers, and community organizations.
- Familiarity with hockey is preferred but not required.

Compensation
Part-Time Position
Compensation Structure:
- Annual Base Compensation: $4,000
- 5% Revenue Share on Tournament Registration Revenue
- 10% Commission on Sponsorship Revenue Secured
- $500 New Event Launch Bonus for each successfully developed and executed new tournament or event
Estimated First-Year Compensation:
$6,000 - $10,000+
Additional earning opportunities available as tournament participation, sponsorships, and event offerings expand.
