The KIIH Body Contact & Battle Camp Clinic is designed to prepare players for the transition into body contact and checking in a safe, structured, and confidence-building environment. This clinic supports both players and parents during one of the most important developmental stages in youth hockey.

As players approach their first season of checking, education and proper technique are critical. This camp focuses on teaching the how, when, and why of body contact—ensuring players understand not only how to deliver contact correctly, but also how to protect themselves, maintain balance, and anticipate physical play.

*We encourage participants to find skaters of similar size and age to pair up during these sessions.

  • Clinic Focus Areas

Instructors emphasize safety, respect, and confidence, helping players become comfortable in contact situations while reducing the risk of injury. Players will learn that body contact is a skill—just like skating, passing, and shooting—and must be developed with correct habits from the start.

    • Proper body contact and checking techniques
    • Angling and positioning
    • Stick checks and puck separation
    • Awareness and anticipation in physical situations
    • Understanding legal vs. illegal contact
    • Protecting oneself along the boards and in open ice
  • On-Ice Structure

    • Progressive skill development from instruction to application
    • Controlled-contact battle drills
    • Age- and size-appropriate teaching progressions
    • Focused repetition to reinforce proper technique

Participants are encouraged to pair with skaters of similar size and age whenever possible during drills.

  • Why This Clinic Matters

USA Hockey rule changes have shifted when body contact is introduced, making early education more important than ever. Learning how to give and receive contact safely helps players build confidence, reduce fear, and compete effectively as the game becomes more physical.

This clinic also provides parents with reassurance—knowing their player is being taught by experienced instructors with safety as the top priority.

The KIIH Body Contact & Battle Camp prepares players mentally and physically for the demands of Bantam hockey and beyond, ensuring they enter the season informed, confident, and ready to compete.
