Hockey Program Leaders

Help Us Grow the Game!

The Keyes Institute of Ice Hockey (KIIH) is looking for energetic, positive, and dependable individuals to serve as Hockey Program Leaders for our youth development programs.

Whether you're a hockey parent, former player, current college student, teacher, or someone who simply enjoys working with kids, we'd love to hear from you!

Programs Include

  • Learn to Skate Leader
  • Intro to Pucks Leader
  • Hockey 101 Leader
  • Mite Development Leader

Position Overview

Hockey Program Leaders are responsible for leading one of KIIH's youth hockey programs. They create a fun, organized, and positive learning environment while leading a team of Hockey Instructors through station-based practices.

This is an excellent opportunity for individuals who enjoy teaching, mentoring young athletes, and helping grow the game of hockey.

Responsibilities

Lead weekly on-ice instructional sessions.

Organize and manage station-based practices.

Supervise Hockey Instructors and volunteers.

Create a fun, safe, and encouraging learning environment.

Build positive relationships with players and parents.

Follow and implement the KIIH curriculum.

Help players develop confidence, skills, and a lifelong love of hockey.

Work with the Director of Youth Development to improve and grow the program.

Qualifications

  • Passion for working with children.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills.
  • Dependable and enthusiastic.
  • Hockey playing or coaching experience is preferred but not required.
  • Ability to motivate and encourage young athletes.
  • Positive attitude and commitment to player development.

Compensation

Paid and Volunteer opportunities are available.

Paid Program Leaders are compensated on an hourly basis based on experience and responsibilities.

Volunteer Program Leaders receive mentorship, coaching experience, leadership development, and the opportunity to make a lasting impact on the next generation of hockey players.

We are not simply teaching children how to skate or play hockey. We are building confident young people, strengthening families, and growing the game one player, one family, and One Shift at a time.

Who Should Apply?

We're looking for:

  • Hockey moms and dads
  • High school and college students
  • Teachers and educators
  • Former players
  • Current coaches
  • Anyone passionate about teaching and growing the game
  •

At KIIH, we believe great instructors are defined by their enthusiasm, leadership, and ability to connect with young athletes—not simply by the highest level they played.

If you're passionate about helping young players build confidence, develop skills, and fall in love with hockey, we'd love to have you join our team!

Mission

Create the best youth hockey development experience in West Michigan by providing exceptional organization, communication, instruction, and customer service while growing participation at every level of the program.

Under the coaching of Coach Keyes my Bantam aged son improved tremendously over the course of the season. Coach Keyes stresses fundamentals like no other youth coach we have been associated with. His attention to detail and practice organization create a great learning environment for all of his players. His knowledge of the game is only overshadowed by his passion for the sport. He loves hockey and I know my son loves the game more because of him. Any opportunity to be coached by Coach Keyes is an opportunity you cannot afford to pass up

IThanks again for all your time and support with the boys! I know Dominic has gained a whole new respect for Hockey and the time and effort coaches, put into improving him not only as an athlete but also as a young man.

With all the passion and care you have shown for our boys. You went above and beyond with the show of support for the 5 trying out in GR, I know your presence there helped Teddy. Again thank you for all you've done this year as a coach, mentor, and friend to Teddy
