Skating Development Coach
Position Overview
The Skating Development Coach position is responsible for delivering skating skills and athletic development instruction by embracing the KIIH culture and following the established curriculum. In addition, the Skating Development Coach will be responsible for implementing ice skating programming for KIIH. Such programming will include private instruction (including individual and group instruction), camps, power skating and more. The ideal candidate
must be passionate about developing skaters, have a helpful and cooperative attitude, be a team player, and be a positive role model. Additionally, the position will ensure that facilities, equipment, and training provide a safe, healthy, positive, and structured experience for athletes and their families. This role will also work with the Regional Director to manage day-to-day operations, maintain schedules, maximize opportunities to serve our clients and meet business objectives.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead advanced skating instruction within KIIH youth programs.
- Teach and demonstrate proper skating mechanics, edge control, balance, stride efficiency, agility, acceleration, crossovers, transitions, and overall skating performance.
- Develop age-appropriate skating progressions and lesson plans.
- Integrate power skating concepts into hockey development programs.
- Mentor and support Skating & Hockey Instructors by providing technical guidance and coaching.
- Evaluate player skating ability and recommend development plans.
- Assist in the design and implementation of the KIIH skating curriculum.
- Maintain a safe, organized, and positive learning environment.
- Collaborate with Program Leaders to ensure consistent player development across all programs.
- Transport equipment to off-site training locations and return to designated storage after use
- Maintain facilities and equipment to ensure peak athlete experience, development, and retention
- Complete daily, monthly, and quarterly checklists and schedules to ensure operations and performance goals are met
- Adhere to all partner organization policies and procedures to ensure compliance and mutually beneficial relationships
- Promote KIIH services to new and existing client athletes and their families to drive all programs to capacity
- Accumulate biographical and contact information for prospective client athletes
- Other job-related duties as assigned
Qualifications
- Extensive experience teaching skating mechanics and player development.
- Strong understanding of hockey skating fundamentals and power skating techniques.
- Figure skating coaching experience is highly valued and encouraged.
- Ability to analyze skating technique and provide corrective instruction.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and mentoring skills.
- Passion for developing young athletes and helping instructors grow.
Essential Requirements
- Past figure skating coaching experience OR past youth, junior, collegiate, and/or professional skating coaching experience
- Proven ability to deliver high-quality results in a very dynamic environment
- Strong interpersonal, communication and time management skills
- Ability to travel regionally to event locations as needed
- Participate in ongoing training and related professional development activities as directed
- Comply with SafeSport and/or USA Hockey certification requirements and background check

The ideal Skating Development Coach combines technical expertise with exceptional teaching ability. They are capable of coaching beginning skaters, elite hockey players, and mentoring fellow instructors. This individual serves as KIIH's subject matter expert in skating development and is committed to creating a culture of technical excellence across all youth programs.
